Acer Unveils Transformer Concept: Gaming Device Transforms into Laptop

Acer expands its lineup of portable devices with two new solutions: the Project DualPlay Mini concept and the Predator Atlas 7 gaming handheld. The former stands out with its unconventional design—a device that resembles a classic gaming handheld but unfolds into a netbook with a full-sized physical keyboard. The 8-inch display can rotate, ensuring convenience when used in laptop mode.

Project DualPlay Mini is powered by an Intel processor and features dual fans for cooling, similar to those in the Atlas 8 model. The device supports external display connectivity, enhancing its versatility. However, it remains a concept for now, with no confirmed timeline for mass production. Potential concerns include usability, weight, and the durability of the transformation mechanism.

The second announcement, the Predator Atlas 7, is a compact version of the Atlas 8, released in May. The new device boasts a 7-inch Full HD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. It is powered by Intel Arc G3 or G3 Extreme processors, paired with Arc B370/B390 GPUs, up to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 1TB of NVMe storage.

The Predator Atlas 7 includes full-sized analog sticks, Hall-effect triggers, rear buttons, and a fingerprint scanner integrated with the power button. It supports Thunderbolt 4, microSD, and 65W fast charging. The battery comes in two capacities: 60Wh or 80Wh, though exact battery life details remain undisclosed.

Sales of the Predator Atlas 7 are set to begin in North America in Q4 2026, with availability in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa starting November of the same year. Pricing has not yet been announced.
