Acer Unveils Portable Blaze Link Gamepad for Laptop Game Streaming

Acer is expanding its gaming device lineup with the portable Nitro Blaze Link gamepad, which allows streaming games from Predator and Nitro laptops. The device features a 7-inch touchscreen with a 1200p resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio, and supports Wi-Fi 6 for connecting to the host system. Unlike cloud-based gamepads, Blaze Link does not run games locally but instead decodes the video stream, offloading all processing to the primary laptop.

The device’s specifications are minimal: 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and an unspecified processor. This is because Blaze Link functions as a streaming client, requiring no powerful hardware. However, Acer does not guarantee compatibility with laptops from other manufacturers, emphasizing that the device is "designed to work" with Predator and Nitro models. The new product is expected to launch in Q4 2026, though pricing has not yet been announced.

Potential issues include possible signal transmission delays, especially if the Wi-Fi channel is congested. Acer uses an 80MHz Wi-Fi 6 channel with OFDMA technology to support multiple simultaneous connections, but this does not eliminate the risk of lag. Additionally, Blaze Link requires the host system to either display the game on its own screen or create a virtual monitor for rendering.

At Computex, Acer also introduced other new products, including the Aspire 18 AI laptop with an 18-inch screen for the mass market and the Helios 18 gaming laptop with a hybrid keyboard, where mechanical switches can be installed on WASD keys. These models will be available in August, though pricing details remain undisclosed.
