Alphabet Raises Record $85 Billion for Google’s AI Development

Alphabet, the holding company overseeing Google, has set a new benchmark by completing the largest stock offering in history, raising $85 billion. The funds will be allocated to advancing artificial intelligence infrastructure, including the construction of data centers and procurement of high-performance equipment. Sundar Pichai, Alphabet’s CEO, emphasized that this initiative aligns with a multi-year strategy to meet surging demand from enterprise and consumer clients.

The initial plan targeted $40 billion, but overwhelming demand pushed the first tranche to $45 billion. A second tranche of equal value is scheduled for the next quarter. Notable investors, such as Berkshire Hathaway, which invested $10 billion, reflect robust market trust in AI’s long-term prospects. This move reinforces confidence in the sector’s growth trajectory.

Alphabet’s AI infrastructure investments in 2024 may reach $190 billion. The successful offering also serves as a positive indicator for other companies preparing for IPOs, like Anthropic and SpaceX.
