AMD Launches Radeon RX 9070 GRE Graphics Card Globally at $549

AMD is expanding its RDNA 4 graphics card lineup by launching the Radeon RX 9070 GRE globally. Initially available only in China, this graphics card will be released worldwide on June 2 at a recommended price of $549. The move aims to fill the gap between the RX 9060 XT and RX 9070 amid a shortage of video memory and rising prices for higher-performance solutions.

The Radeon RX 9070 GRE is built on the 4nm Navi 48 chip, which is also used in the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT models. The key difference lies in the number of active compute units (CU): 48 compared to 56 in the RX 9070 and 64 in the RX 9070 XT. This reduces performance by 14–25% compared to higher-end models but allows AMD to effectively utilize silicon that does not meet the strict requirements for top-tier versions.

The graphics card features 12GB of GDDR6 memory with a 192-bit bus, delivering a bandwidth of 432 GB/s—32.5% less than the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. However, power consumption remains at 220W, the same as the base RX 9070 model. According to AMD, in 1440p gaming, the RX 9070 GRE delivers 21% higher performance than the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB but falls short of the RTX 5070.

The launch of the RX 9070 GRE at $549 is a strategic move by AMD amid market challenges. The model offers a balanced price-to-performance ratio, occupying the niche between budget and high-end solutions. This will help the company strengthen its position in the sub-$550 segment, where demand remains high due to rising prices for more powerful graphics cards.
