Android Enhances Fraud Call Protection and Expands AirDrop Compatibility

Google has released a new Android update focused on enhancing security and user convenience. The standout feature is the fraud call detection system, integrated into the Phone app. This system analyzes incoming calls in real time and warns users if a number or voice appears suspicious—for instance, when someone attempts to impersonate a relative or acquaintance.

The technology operates by verifying signals between devices: if the legitimate contact uses a verified smartphone, the system recognizes it through an encrypted RCS channel. If fraudsters spoof a number (e.g., via VoIP or AI voice cloning), Android will notify the user and suggest ending the call. The feature is available on devices running Android 12 and above, starting with Pixel, and requires both parties to use the Google Phone app.

Beyond security, the update expands AirDrop support via Quick Share, making file exchanges with iPhones easier on a broader range of Android devices, including Samsung Galaxy, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Honor, and Vivo models. New content tools have also been introduced: Google Play Books now features Book Insights, offering concise summaries or text-based Q&A, while Google Photos includes a virtual try-on tool for clothing from users’ photo libraries.

For children under 13, the update unlocks Personal Safety app features, such as displaying medical information on the lock screen and automatically alerting emergency services in case of a car accident. Additionally, Gboard now offers new emoji combinations for creating custom stickers.
