Apple Intelligence at WWDC: Key Siri and AI Updates

At WWDC, Apple unveiled major updates to its Apple Intelligence AI platform. The headline innovation was Siri AI—a redesigned voice assistant that now supports conversational interactions, remembers context from previous queries, and performs complex tasks like searching the web and on-device data, as well as interacting with ChatGPT. The new Siri will feature a dedicated app, expanded voice customization options, and support for multimodal functions, including image and video analysis.

Updates extend beyond Siri. The Photos app will introduce AI-powered tools such as Spatial Reframing for perspective adjustments, Extend for expanding image boundaries with AI-generated elements, and an improved Clean Up feature for object removal. Image Playground will enable users to create and edit images using text prompts. These features will be available in iOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, and other Apple updates, slated for release this fall.

Apple also announced a partnership with Google to integrate Gemini technologies into its AI models, enhancing multimodal capabilities like speech, image, and video processing. The company emphasized that user data remains protected through Private Cloud Compute, an infrastructure that does not store information during off-device processing. Initially, Siri AI will only support English, with regional rollouts in the EU and China potentially delayed due to regulatory constraints.
