Apple Delays Smart Glasses Release Until Late 2027

Apple has adjusted the timeline for its smart glasses, delaying the launch until late 2027. The product was originally planned for a reveal this year, with shipments starting in the first quarter of 2027. However, Bloomberg reports that development has encountered several obstacles.

The project is considered a key part of Apple’s strategy and is actively supported by both current CEO Tim Cook and incoming CEO John Ternus. According to the publication, Ternus has led the development team for two years. The glasses are expected to feature a unique design with oval cameras, multiple frame options, and signature colors.

The device is intended to be more than just an accessory, serving as a platform for augmented reality technologies. Apple plans to integrate health monitoring and advanced AR capabilities into the glasses in the future. Currently, the product is in the testing phase for various design options, including rectangular and oval frames.

The smart glasses market is still in its early stages but is growing rapidly. According to Counterpoint Research, sales in this segment surged by 139% in the second half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. Apple’s glasses are expected to include cameras for photos and videos, microphones and speakers for calls, and multimodal AI with Siri voice assistant support.
