American telecommunications giant Charter Communications confirmed a data breach after hacker group ShinyHunters demanded a ransom to prevent the disclosure of stolen information. The company, which provides communication services under the Spectrum brand, has become the latest victim of cybercriminals specializing in extortion.
According to preliminary reports, the attackers gained access to Charter’s internal systems and stole confidential data. ShinyHunters, known for targeting large corporations, threatened to publish the information if the company fails to meet their demands. It remains unclear which specific data is at risk, but such incidents often involve customers' and employees' personal information.
Charter Communications has launched an investigation into the incident and is collaborating with law enforcement. The company has also notified customers about potential risks and recommended precautionary measures, including password changes and monitoring for suspicious account activity. This case underscores the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures in the telecom sector.
