Budget laptops are no longer a compromise: Apple’s MacBook Neo and Dell’s XPS 13 (2026) prove that premium features are available for $600. Both models are positioned as lightweight and portable but differ fundamentally in design and functionality.

The Dell XPS 13 (2026) offers more flexible configurations, ranging from 8 to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. The base model features an Intel Core 5/7 Wildcat Lake processor, optimized for energy efficiency. Its 2.5K display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz outperforms the MacBook Neo’s screen, though the latter wins with a lighter weight (1kg vs. Dell’s 1.2kg) and 500-nit brightness.

The MacBook Neo retains Apple ecosystem advantages, including seamless integration with iPhone, iCloud, and AirDrop, as well as the proprietary macOS 26 Tahoe. However, Dell excels in ports and expandability: two USB-C (3.2 Gen 2) ports on opposite sides, DisplayPort 2.1 support, and future compatibility with Intel Core Ultra Panther Lake processors. Apple limited its offering to two USB-C ports with varying bandwidth and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Design remains subjective: the MacBook Neo is available in four vibrant colors, while Dell offers only gray shades. However, the XPS 13 wins in portability due to its more compact dimensions with a larger screen. Neither laptop supports memory or storage upgrades, but Dell provides more configuration options at purchase.

The choice between the models depends on priorities: the MacBook Neo is ideal for Apple ecosystem users, while the XPS 13 suits those who value configuration flexibility and modern ports. Both models set a new standard for budget devices, but Dell offers more future upgrade options.
