E Ink and MediaTek Integrate AI into E-Readers: New Capabilities for Digital Reading Devices

A joint development by E Ink and MediaTek is based on the new MT8115 and MT8126 chips, specifically optimized for e-paper devices. Unlike traditional solutions, these processors feature a built-in AI hardware accelerator, enabling on-device processing without relying on cloud computing.

Key features include instant text translation, automatic document summarization, audio transcription, and conversion of voice notes into structured text. These capabilities are particularly valuable for students and professionals handling large volumes of information. For instance, an e-reader could generate a summary of a research paper or lecture in seconds.

In addition to AI, the platform supports the latest E Ink Gallery and Kaleido color displays. The technology promises smoother screen refresh rates, richer colors, and reduced ghosting effects. With a maximum resolution of 300 PPI and screen sizes up to 13.3 inches, the platform paves the way for large-format devices tailored for note-taking and digital textbooks.

The first devices powered by this platform will be released by E Ink’s subsidiary, Linfiny. While e-readers won’t become full-fledged tablets, they will significantly expand their functionality while retaining the benefits of E Ink: extended battery life and eye-friendly displays.
