Fairphone 6 Plus: Modular Smartphone Focused on Repairability Launches in the U.S.

Dutch electronics manufacturer Fairphone has launched its new 6 Plus smartphone in the U.S., positioning it as one of the most repairable devices on the market. The model is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor and features 12GB of RAM—4GB more than its predecessor. The display, camera, and storage capacity remain unchanged: a 6.31-inch OLED screen, a 50MP main camera, and 256GB of internal storage.

The key advantage of the Fairphone 6 Plus is its modular design, allowing users to replace up to 12 components using only a screwdriver. Replaceable parts include the display, battery, cameras, and SIM card slot. The manufacturer offers a five-year warranty, and Android support will extend until 2033. The company also highlights the device's eco-friendliness: 50% of materials are sourced from recycled materials or produced in factories adhering to social standards, and manufacturing is waste-neutral.

Unlike most flagship smartphones, which are difficult or impossible to repair without voiding the warranty, the Fairphone 6 Plus offers a sustainable alternative. This is particularly relevant amid the growing Right to Repair movement, supported by consumer organizations and legislators worldwide. Experts note that such devices can reduce dependence on service centers and minimize electronic waste.

Previously, iFixit awarded the Fairphone 6 model the highest repairability score of 10 out of 10. Similar ratings are expected for the new version. The smartphone is now available for purchase on the manufacturer's official website and Amazon for $650.
