Figma Make Turns Design into Production-Ready Code with Bidirectional GitHub Integration

Figma has officially launched an update for its AI assistant, Figma Make, elevating the platform beyond prototyping. The tool now allows users to import existing Git repositories into the Figma desktop app, visually edit code directly on the canvas, and synchronize changes with engineering teams via standard GitHub pull requests. This solution bridges the gap between design and development while maintaining enterprise-grade version control and security processes.

A key advantage of the new integration is the preservation of engineering best practices. Figma Make operates within standard Git workflows: design changes are committed locally, and a dedicated branch is created before merging into production via pull requests. This ensures visual edits undergo the same security reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and code reviews as traditional engineering commits. The platform supports both open-source and proprietary repositories without imposing additional licensing restrictions on generated code.

Previously, Figma Make only allowed exporting prototypes to new repositories but lacked synchronization with existing codebases. Now, users can connect production or test repositories, highlight UI elements, and generate code via natural language or annotations using a multimodal AI (Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini). The AI adapts to the project’s architecture and applies changes in line with the team’s design system. In the visual development tools market, Figma Make competes with platforms like Lovable and Claude Design but targets a distinct segment. While Lovable focuses on startups and full-stack SaaS applications, and Claude Design emphasizes rapid prototyping, Figma Make is designed for large product teams with established design systems. Integration with Supabase provides a backend environment with secret management and database support, expanding the platform’s capabilities beyond frontend development.
