Firefox Introduces Smart Window — Revolutionary AI Assistant in Browser

Mozilla has released the beta version of Smart Window, an AI assistant integrated into the Firefox browser. The tool is available for macOS and Windows users, offering flexible AI customization without impacting browser performance. Unlike many competitors, Smart Window supports three AI models: Fast (Google Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite), Flexible (Alibaba Qwen3-235B), and Personal (OpenAI GPT-oss-120B).

A standout feature of Smart Window is the Memories function, which retains context from previous conversations. This allows the AI assistant to provide more accurate and relevant responses by referencing prior interactions. Users can enable or disable Memories per chat and choose whether browser history, chat data, or both are used for training the tool.

Smart Window also integrates with Firefox’s tab management system. It can group or close tabs based on topics or user preferences and provide contextual suggestions using open pages and browsing history. The tool operates locally, enhancing privacy, and supports standard browser search functionality.

Experts suggest Smart Window could be a compelling reason for users to return to Firefox as the leading browser. The combination of AI functionality, high performance, and security focus makes it an attractive choice for developers and IT professionals. While still in beta, the tool already demonstrates stability and a robust feature set.

The only potential drawback limiting Firefox’s adoption is the absence of the built-in Workspaces feature for tab organization. However, once Mozilla introduces this capability, the browser could reclaim a significant share of its lost user base.
