In late May, Samsung Electronics CEO Lee Jae-yong held a private meeting with MediaTek’s leadership at the Taiwanese company’s headquarters. The South Korean delegation included top executives from key divisions. MediaTek was represented by Chairman Cai Mingkai and CEO Cai Rensheng.
The primary topic of discussion was expanding semiconductor production cooperation. According to sources, Samsung proposed offering MediaTek exclusive access to next-generation memory solutions for developing its Dimensity mobile platforms. In return, the South Korean corporation expects to secure foundry orders for chip manufacturing on its production lines.
This strategy is not new for Samsung. The company has previously employed a similar approach with Qualcomm, offering favorable component procurement terms for smartphones in exchange for processor production contracts. Experts note that such barter agreements enable Samsung to strengthen its position in the competitive battle for major clients in the semiconductor contract manufacturing segment.
