Google Leases $920 Million in Compute Power from SpaceX Monthly

SpaceX and Google have signed a landmark compute leasing agreement, marking one of the largest deals in the industry’s history. Under the contract, Google will pay $920 million monthly for access to infrastructure comprising approximately 110,000 NVIDIA GPUs, processors, and other components. The agreement spans from October 2026 to June 2029.

Previously, SpaceX struck a comparable deal with Anthropic, leasing compute power from its Colossus 1 data center for $1.25 billion monthly. Unlike Anthropic, Google possesses substantial in-house AI resources but faces unexpectedly high demand for products like Gemini Enterprise. Google representatives stated the deal is short-term and aims to address growing customer needs.

The agreement includes a 90-day termination clause effective after December 2026. If SpaceX fails to deliver the agreed GPU count by September 2026, Google retains the right to terminate the contract or accept fewer units with proportional cost reductions. The announcement follows SpaceX’s IPO preparations, where it aims to raise approximately $75 billion.

Google is a long-time SpaceX investor, and its stake could exceed $100 billion post-IPO. Additionally, the companies are negotiating orbital data centers, which may become a strategic focus for SpaceX after going public.
