Google Adds Live Translation to Gemini Live

Google continues to expand the capabilities of its AI assistant Gemini by adding live translation to Gemini Live, enabling real-time conversation translation between languages. The new feature allows users to communicate in different languages while receiving synchronized speech translations as on-screen subtitles.

The update is being rolled out gradually, beginning with user interface changes. In the current version, the session exit button labeled 'Live with Gemini' has been replaced with a more intuitive 'X' icon for easier session termination. Additionally, the 'Tap to interrupt' feature has been introduced, allowing users to quickly end a session with a single tap.

The new live translation option is available in the voice settings menu, where users can select the source language for detection and the target language for translation. During testing, the service successfully translated speech from Hindi to English, displaying real-time translations. This makes Gemini Live a more versatile tool for multilingual users and international communications.

Google emphasizes that the update focuses on enhancing practical value rather than just visual changes. The new interface, introduced in April, already featured a more compact and dynamic design, improving the user experience. Now, the company is prioritizing functional features that make AI interactions more natural and convenient.
