Google Photos Tests New Collage Tools and AI Video Features

Google Photos is preparing to update one of its underutilized yet handy tools—the collage maker. Currently, users can combine multiple images into one, but the template selection is a long, unstructured list. Future updates will introduce thematic categories like 'Classic,' 'Love,' 'Holiday,' 'Floral,' and more, making the collage creation process more intuitive and user-friendly.

Furthermore, code analysis has revealed references to a new feature called Soba. Based on its icon and name, this appears to be an AI-powered tool for video editing. While the feature is currently inactive and triggers an error upon access, its introduction suggests an expansion of the service’s video generation capabilities. It’s worth noting that Google Photos already supports AI-generated videos from photos, so Soba could serve as a complementary or alternative tool.

Developers are also refining border editing in collages, allowing users to customize frame appearances. These changes are still in testing but could significantly improve the user experience. All mentioned features are not yet available in the public app version, but they are expected in future updates.
