Google Unveils New Smart Display with Nest Hub Max-Style Camera

Google is preparing to launch a new smart display, Home Display, which may be the first such device in years. Code analysis of the Google Home app indicates the device will feature a built-in camera similar to the one used in the Nest Hub Max. This allows users to utilize the display for home monitoring and event recording.

The Home Display's camera will integrate with the Nest Cam ecosystem. By default, users will receive three hours of free event recording. A Google Home Premium subscription will unlock 60 days of event history and 10 days of continuous recording. The device will also include a microphone for voice control and noise detection.

Developers have addressed legal requirements: when recording is enabled, a notification will appear on the display. Users can disable recording and switch to a live video viewing mode. Technical specifications of the camera, such as resolution and field of view, remain undisclosed, but they are expected to match other Nest lineup devices.

The new Home Display could be one of Google's most significant smart home updates in recent years. The company continues to expand its smart home segment despite the absence of new display models since 2021, when the Pixel Tablet was introduced.
