Google Home Now Recognizes Pets by Name

Google is expanding its smart home platform capabilities with the introduction of the "Pet Memory" feature for pet owners. The option integrates with Nest cameras and select Gemini-enabled devices, allowing the system to store key details about pets—such as their names and species. This eliminates vague alerts and ensures notifications are personalized for users.

The feature can be configured via the "Ask Home" section in the Google Home app. Once pet details are entered, the system will use them to generate alerts. For instance, instead of a generic motion detection notification, users will receive messages specifying their pet’s name. Currently, the feature is exclusive to Advanced tier subscribers of Google Home Premium.

In addition to "Pet Memory," Google announced the expansion of Gemini for Home to the German market. Users in Germany will gain access to new tools in a test phase starting this week. The company also launched Home Brief and voice search for camera recordings globally, previously available only in the U.S. Access to these features requires an Advanced tier subscription.
