Google Home Renames User to 'Fish Lemon' Without Consent

Google Home’s AI-powered voice assistant unexpectedly renamed a user to the unusual nickname 'Fish Lemon' after discussing fish recipes. The odd name appeared in reminders, on smart displays, and even when directly asking for the current name. Attempts to revert to the original name have failed, as the system stubbornly returns to the playful nickname.

The user, who shared the story on Reddit, noted that their Google Account still displays their real name, adding to the confusion. The reasons behind this AI behavior remain unclear: the nickname may have been saved through the 'Saved Info' or 'Ask Home' features, which allow the system to remember preferences and conversation context.

Such incidents are not isolated. Previously, AI assigned fictional names to people in camera frames, such as 'Michael,' 'Sarah,' or 'Kevin.' In those cases, the issue stemmed from object recognition features rather than saved conversation context. While the user understands whom the AI is referring to, the joke has grown tiresome.

The Reddit community responded with irony, suggesting the user 'embrace the new name' or even 'not refuse Fish Lemon.' However, as commenters noted, it could have been worse.
