Google Meet Now Available in Android Auto for Calls While Driving

Google has completed the large-scale integration of its video conferencing service, Google Meet, into Android Auto. Drivers can now join scheduled meetings in audio mode without taking their hands off the wheel. The app’s interface is adapted for safe use while driving: video is disabled, and the phone screen automatically switches to "On-the-Go" mode with a minimalist display.

The feature allows users to join pre-scheduled meetings or answer incoming calls only. Initiating new calls from the vehicle is not supported. For user convenience, Android Auto displays only upcoming meetings, and joining a conference requires just one click. Basic actions such as muting the microphone and ending the call are available.

Google has implemented several safety restrictions. Features like raising a hand, Q&A, and polls are disabled in driving mode. If these functions are needed, users are advised to stop and switch to the full app on their smartphone. Additionally, corporate Work Profile accounts are not supported in Android Auto: users will see only active calls but cannot view call history or scheduled meetings.

Google Meet support in Android Auto began testing in April, following a similar feature in Apple CarPlay. The update is now available to all users, making the service more versatile for business trips.
