Google Upgrades NotebookLM: AI Now Generates Code, Reports, and Presentations

Google has introduced a major update for NotebookLM, an AI assistant designed for handling large datasets. The tool now leverages the Gemini 3.5 model and Antigravity technology, improving the accuracy and reliability of generated responses while enhancing information processing transparency. Each NotebookLM project operates within its own cloud-based computing environment, enabling users to analyze data, write and execute code, and create complex workflows without switching between applications.

The updated NotebookLM supports over 100 specialized functions, including generating reports in PDF, DOCX, and Markdown formats, as well as creating presentations, Excel spreadsheets, charts, and structured datasets in CSV and JSON. The tool now also handles images in PNG, JPG, and GIF formats. A key focus is multilingual support: users can input queries in one language and receive results in another, broadening opportunities for international research and cross-cultural collaboration.

Previously, NotebookLM required pre-prepared source materials, but users can now start from scratch—simply pose a question or idea, and the AI will help build a source library. Users retain control over which materials are included in the analysis, while the system ensures transparent source citation. The update is already available to Google AI Ultra subscribers and Workspace enterprise clients with AI Ultra access.
