Google Photos Simplifies Backups with Incremental Exports

Google has introduced a new feature called "Incremental Takeout for Photos," enabling users to configure automatic backups of photos and videos from Google Photos with minimal resource usage. After the initial full export, subsequent uploads will include only files that have been added, edited, or modified since the last successful backup.

Previously, creating a backup via Google Takeout required downloading the entire library each time, which could be time-consuming, especially for large datasets, and demanded significant storage resources. The new incremental export system addresses this issue, making the process more efficient and user-friendly.

To activate the feature, users must select Google Photos as the only product when configuring an export in Takeout. Users can set the backup frequency—archives are automatically created every two months for a year. However, participants in the Advanced Protection Program will not have access to this option.
