Google Tests Floating Search Bar in Chrome with AI Features

Google continues to experiment with the interface of its Chrome browser. In the Chrome Canary test version, a new feature has been discovered—a floating search bar that can be triggered using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Space (Cmd + Shift + Space for macOS). This tool enables users to perform searches without opening the browser, resembling similar solutions from Apple (Spotlight) and Microsoft (PowerToys Run).

A key highlight of the new bar is its deep integration with artificial intelligence. The interface includes an AI Mode, granting access to Google’s generative AI tools directly from the search bar. Additionally, users can upload files and images for analysis or create AI-generated content without leaving the single window. This makes the bar a versatile tool for information management.

For now, the feature is in the early stages of development and is only available in the experimental Chrome build. Experts note that many test features do not make it to the stable version, so there is no guarantee that the floating search bar will be available to all users. However, its introduction demonstrates Google’s commitment to embedding AI into everyday tools and optimizing search interactions.
