Google Translate Testing Major UI Redesign on Android

Google is actively working on a major update to the interface of its popular Translate app for Android. In the new version, currently in testing, the language selectors have been moved to the top of the screen, freeing up more space for the main translation area. This change makes the interface cleaner and more user-friendly.

A key innovation is the new bottom navigation bar, designed as a pill-shaped element with four main sections: Translate for text translation, Live for real-time conversations, Camera for image translation, and Practice for language learning. This structure simplifies access to the app’s core features.

Google has also redesigned the text input screen and the translation results page. Now unified with rounded cards, these updates give the app a modern look. The input card includes quick actions like pasting text, voice input, and translation model selection. Additionally, translation history and saved transcripts are consolidated into a single “Your activity” section, making them easier to find and reuse.

Despite the significant changes, Google has not yet disclosed the release timeline for the updated design. As with other beta versions, there’s a chance the final release may differ from the current iteration. However, it’s clear that Google aims to make Translate a more convenient and functional tool for users.
