Google Releases Wear OS 7 with Live Updates Feature and Improved Battery Life

Google has officially unveiled the Wear OS 7 update for its Pixel Watch smartwatches. The standout feature is Live Updates, which enables real-time synchronization of event notifications between the watch and smartphone. Users can now receive up-to-date information, such as sports match scores or food delivery status, without needing to check their phone.

The second major improvement is enhanced battery life. According to Google, Wear OS 7 extends battery performance by 10% compared to the previous version, achieved through optimizations in background processes and system energy efficiency.

In the coming months, Wear OS 7 will introduce new AI-powered features. These include Create My Widget, allowing users to generate custom widgets via text commands, and multi-step task automation, such as restaurant reservations. The Gemini interface will also receive updates, supporting personalized recommendations based on data from connected Google applications.

The update streamlines media management with a new audio output switcher, enabling users to redirect sound between connected devices like headphones or Nest smart speakers. Additionally, Wear OS 7 supports integration with smart glasses announced at the I/O conference, allowing users to view photos from the glasses directly on their watch.

For developers, new tools are available to create dynamic widgets for Wear OS, which are easier to implement than the custom Tiles introduced in 2019. Devices running older versions of Wear OS 4, 5, and 6 will also be able to display these widgets in full-screen mode. Finally, the Emergency Sharing feature now automatically alerts not only emergency services but also pre-selected contacts in cases of detected falls, loss of pulse, or car accidents.
