Google Shuts Down Pixel Studio — Exclusive Pixel App

Google is officially ending development of Pixel Studio, launched in 2024 alongside the Pixel 9 series. Initially positioned as a showcase of the company’s AI capabilities in image generation, the app allowed users to create digital illustrations, wallpapers, and stickers from scratch, as well as edit existing photos. However, access to these features was restricted to flagship Pixel models.

In the latest app update, users see a notification about migrating functionality to Nano Banana, a tool embedded in Gemini*. The Pixel Studio button now automatically opens Gemini*, or prompts users to install it if unavailable. While previously created content remains viewable, generating new images or stickers is no longer possible. This trend was already evident: a recent Gboard update removed the sticker creation tab, indirectly confirming Google’s plans to phase out Pixel Studio.

It remains unclear whether the app will be fully removed from Pixel devices or retained as a stripped-down version with basic screenshot editing tools. In its current form, Pixel Studio offers no unique features unavailable in other editors. The update is rolling out gradually via Google Play, and users reliant on image generation are advised to switch to Nano Banana in Gemini*.
