Google Completes Workspace Icon Redesign: Gmail Updated Last

Google has announced the completion of the redesign of its Workspace app icons for Android. Gmail was the last app to receive the updated design—now, all services, including Drive, Docs, Calendar, and Meet, have a more pronounced visual identity.

Previously, users often struggled to distinguish between similar icons, making it difficult to quickly access the desired app. Google’s new approach uses gradients and unique color schemes instead of requiring all four of the company’s brand colors. For example, the Calendar icon is now in blue tones, Meet features yellow accents, and Drive has eliminated red entirely.

The update began ahead of the Google I/O 2026 conference and was gradually rolled out to web versions, iOS, and finally Android. Google emphasizes that the changes are purely visual: app functionality remains unchanged. The goal of the redesign is to improve the recognizability of each service while preserving the brand’s unified style.
