Honor Robot Phone: Smartphone with Robotic Camera Module & AI

Chinese tech brand Honor has unveiled the Robot Phone—the first smartphone to combine mobile functionality with robotic capabilities. The standout feature is its retractable camera module with a three-axis stabilizer, which deploys automatically via gestures or commands from the AI assistant Yoyo. This innovation redefines smartphone design, moving beyond traditional form factors.

On the rear panel, the Honor Robot Phone hides a robotic mechanism equipped with a titanium stabilizer and titanium alloy motors. The module includes three cameras: a 200MP main sensor, a 200MP telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera, all co-developed with the legendary film company ARRI. This setup enables professional-grade photo and video capture, including cinematic modes and ARRI filters.

The device supports gesture control, allowing the camera to 'nod,' 'turn its head,' and perform other movements for user interaction. The built-in AI assistant Yoyo not only manages the camera but also handles tasks like ordering drinks via an app. Honor emphasizes that the Robot Phone runs on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, ensuring high performance for AI-driven tasks.

The company also announced a partnership with Seeed Studio, offering open-source robotics kits where the phone serves as the 'brain.' Users can download projects to transform the device into a mobile platform with wheels or a bipedal walking mechanism. Currently, the Robot Phone is available only in China, but analysts see this as a strategic move to strengthen Honor’s position as an innovation-driven brand.
