Instagram* Tests New 'Instants' Format for Instant Snapshots

Instagram* has announced the testing of a new publication format called 'Instants.' The feature enables users to share unedited photos that disappear immediately after being viewed by the recipient. Unlike traditional Stories, screenshots are prohibited, and content is not saved in the profile archive.

Developers position 'Instants' as a tool for spontaneous sharing without prior preparation. The format combines elements of BeReal—a platform where users post photos from both cameras simultaneously—and the ephemeral nature of Snapchat. A key feature is that photos are available only once and cannot be viewed again.

The feature is currently in closed beta testing. It is expected to appeal to Generation Z users, who prefer authentic content without excessive editing. In the future, Instagram* may expand the format’s capabilities by adding personal archives for selected photos.
