iOS 27 to Add AirPods Sound Customization with Equalizer

At the recent WWDC conference, Apple introduced iOS 27, featuring a standout update: sound customization for AirPods. For the first time, users can adjust their headphones' audio using a graphic equalizer, fine-tuning frequency balance to their liking.

Previously, AirPods owners could only modify sound profiles through Apple Music’s settings, choosing from a limited set of presets. The new feature allows users to create custom profiles or use Apple’s recommended settings, significantly expanding personalization options. While the level of detail in adjustments remains unclear, even basic controls for low, mid, and high frequencies mark a major step forward.

Apple has traditionally optimized AirPods’ sound through in-house engineering without user customization. However, growing competition in the wireless earbuds market—where brands like Bose and JBL offer advanced equalizers with precise frequency tuning—has prompted the company to reconsider its approach. The new feature brings AirPods closer to industry standards while maintaining Apple’s signature minimalist interface design.
