iOS 27 May Pave the Way for a Foldable iPhone with Advanced Multitasking

Next week at WWDC 2024, Apple will unveil updates for its mobile operating system, iOS 27. While improvements to the voice assistant Siri are highly anticipated, equally significant changes may involve support for foldable devices. According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to introduce an iPad-like interface, enabling split-screen mode for running two apps simultaneously and adding side panels in select applications.

Experts note that current iOS multitasking limitations prevent users from fully utilizing large screens, even on 6.9-inch Pro Max models. The introduction of new features, such as multi-window management and side panels, could signal preparations for a foldable iPhone. Similar solutions are already implemented in Android devices, like the Oppo Find N6, which supports up to three apps running at once or floating windows for quick access to essential tools.

Beyond enhanced multitasking, iOS 27 may include additional improvements for larger screens. These could feature a side panel similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold* and expanded folders, like those in Honor devices, allowing users to group up to five apps for quick access. These changes could make the foldable iPhone more efficient for productivity, bridging the gap between tablets and mobile devices while retaining portability.
