South Korea Unveils Startup Support Programs for Global Entrepreneurs

At the international BEYOND Expo 2026, the Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Development (KISED) presented opportunities for global startups in South Korea. The organization, under the country’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups, highlighted an innovative ecosystem that attracts entrepreneurs worldwide.

South Korea stands out due to its advanced digital infrastructure, cutting-edge payment systems, and significant investments in research and development. These factors secure the country’s leading positions in global innovation rankings. Additionally, the government actively fosters collaboration between major corporations like Samsung and Hyundai Motor and startups, creating further growth opportunities.

KISED manages an annual budget of approximately $1 billion, allocating funds to support startups at various stages. Key initiatives include the K-Startup Grand Challenge, which annually selects around 80 international teams from over 2,000 applications. Participants gain access to a three-month acceleration program, commercialization support, and opportunities to pitch to investors. The Global Startup Center also provides foreign entrepreneurs with office spaces, business registration assistance, and training.

To attract global talent, South Korea introduced the Startup Korea visa, simplifying entry for startup founders. The application review process takes about a month, with selection criteria focusing on project innovation and market fit. KISED continues to expand international partnerships, aiming to strengthen South Korea’s position as a key startup hub in Asia.
