Chinese CXMT Achieves DDR5-8800 Breakthrough on AMD Platform

Chinese memory manufacturer ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) continues to strengthen its position in the DRAM market, delivering impressive results in the DDR5 segment. At a recent overclocking event hosted by Colorful, CXMT’s chips achieved DDR5-8800 speeds on an AMD X870E platform. This milestone places the Chinese manufacturer on par with industry giants like SK hynix, whose A-die and M-die chips are widely regarded as overclocking benchmarks.

Founded just a decade ago, CXMT has already become China’s largest memory manufacturer and the world’s fourth-largest. Despite its relative youth, the company’s products are widely adopted by leading Chinese brands such as Asgard, Gloway, and KingBank, as well as international players like Corsair. Major OEMs, including HP, Asus, and Acer, have integrated CXMT memory into their devices, with rumors suggesting Apple’s interest as well.

Technological constraints, including restricted access to EUV lithography, have not hindered CXMT’s progress. The company leverages DUV equipment to produce 16nm process chips, comparable to technologies previously used by industry leaders. CXMT’s roadmap includes transitioning to a 1a-nanometer process, which would further narrow the gap with competitors.

CXMT’s recent IPO was one of the most successful in China’s tech sector, with shares surging 466% and raising over $8.6 billion. These funds are being allocated to expand production capacity and advance new technologies. By 2030, CXMT aims to capture 30% of the global memory market, challenging traditional leaders.
