Companies Create 'Heat Rescue Zones' for Employees

In Japan, a year has passed since mandatory requirements for employers to protect employees from heatstroke were introduced. The country's meteorological agency forecasts that the summer of 2024 will be hotter than usual, heightening the need for effective safety measures. Workers in construction, logistics, and other outdoor sectors remain particularly vulnerable.

Companies are actively implementing so-called 'heat rescue zones'—air-conditioned rooms where employees can cool down and recover quickly. These spaces are equipped with temperature control systems, drinking water, and first-aid kits. In some cases, portable cooling devices and sensors monitoring workers' physical condition in real time are also used.

Experts note that technological solutions, such as IoT sensors and automated alert systems, play a crucial role in preventing heatstroke. However, employee awareness of safety protocols in extreme heat remains a key factor. Employers conduct training seminars and develop clear action protocols in case of overheating.
