Lionsgate Joins Movies Anywhere: What Changes for Digital Movie Owners

Film studio Lionsgate has officially integrated its digital library into Movies Anywhere, a service owned by The Walt Disney Company. This decision allows users who have purchased Lionsgate films to synchronize them across various streaming platforms and online stores, such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, YouTube, and others.

According to Deadline, 225 of Lionsgate’s most popular films, including franchises like *John Wick*, *The Hunger Games*, and *Rambo*, will be available on the platform starting in June. The collection will expand monthly with around 100 new titles until early 2027. Following this integration, the total number of films available on Movies Anywhere will exceed 10,000.

Movies Anywhere was originally developed by Disney in 2009 as a platform for synchronizing digital content rights. Until recently, the service supported films from Disney, Sony Pictures, Universal, and Warner Bros., but had not added major studios since 2017. With Lionsgate’s addition, the remaining major holdouts include Paramount, MGM, and independent studios like A24 and Criterion.

Note that the platform only supports films—TV series and shows are not included. Users who purchase digital versions of films effectively acquire a viewing license rather than full ownership of the content.
