macOS Golden Gate: Enhanced Search, Smarter Siri, and Interface Transparency Settings

At the opening of WWDC 2026, Apple introduced macOS 27 Golden Gate—a major update to its Mac operating system. Unlike previous years, the company did not emphasize radical design changes but instead focused on improving performance and stability. The Liquid Glass interface, debuted in the previous version, now features an adjustable slider for window transparency, allowing users to balance aesthetics and readability.

One of the key innovations is the revamped search system. Spotlight, Photos, and Mail now operate faster and more accurately, while integration with the upgraded Siri enables voice commands for app actions. Siri has received its own dedicated app, where users can continue conversations or sync requests across Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Initially, Siri AI supports only English, but additional languages are expected in future updates.

macOS Golden Gate also expands parental control features. The new "Ask to Browse" option sends notifications to parents when a child attempts to visit a new website, while an enhanced security system blocks unwanted content, including violent images and videos. Additionally, users can now set screen time limits for specific app categories, such as games or social media*.

The update will be available for all Macs powered by Apple silicon, starting with the M1 chip, including the recently unveiled MacBook Neo with the A18 Pro. Owners of Intel-based devices, such as the 2020 MacBook Pro or iMac, will not be able to install Golden Gate. Support for Rosetta 2 to run x86 applications will end after this macOS release.
