Metanet Returns with Multiplayer Sequel to Cult Platformer N++

Metanet Studio, known for the cult platformer N++, is returning with a new project. This time, the developers are betting on multiplayer: the game, titled N Plus Infinity Times Two, will offer cooperative and competitive modes while preserving the original's signature difficulty and visual style. The release is planned for 2027 across all major platforms, including PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Studio founders Raigan Burns and Mare Sheppard explained that the idea for the sequel emerged after observing how modern players combine solo gameplay with communication in messengers. This inspired them to merge classic "couch" co-op with the dynamics of multiplayer sessions. The developers emphasize that the new project will not just be a continuation but an evolution of the N concept, with a focus on social interaction.

Metanet maintains its unique approach to development: the studio remains a small team, avoiding scaling and corporate processes. Burns compared game development to performing in a band, where creative freedom and the "magic" of the process are paramount. This approach has allowed them to create several successful projects, including N+ and N++, without sacrificing quality for speed.

Despite the long hiatus, the developers do not rule out returning to the N franchise in the future. Sheppard noted their interest in reimagining the game's concept from a new perspective, whether through gameplay mechanics or visual style. For now, the team is focused on making N Plus Infinity Times Two as engaging as possible for both players and the creators themselves.
