Microsoft Build 2026: Key Expectations from the Developer Conference

Microsoft Build 2026, set for June 2–3 in San Francisco, promises to be a landmark event for developers and IT specialists. As in recent years, the primary focus will be on artificial intelligence, particularly the advancement of the Copilot platform. Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, has already signaled a shift from synchronous assistants to asynchronous AI agents capable of executing prolonged tasks in the background.

AI agents are becoming a new standard for Microsoft, spanning products like Office 365, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Unlike traditional chatbots, these agents can independently analyze emails, search for information, or even make purchases. The conference is expected to showcase new models for GitHub Copilot, specializing in coding, image processing, and speech recognition. Tools with enhanced logical analysis capabilities may also be introduced.

Special attention may be given to the future of Windows. While there have been no official announcements about Windows 12, the conference could serve as an opportune moment to preview new operating system features. Users have criticized the excessive integration of AI in Windows, deeming it intrusive, which has fueled interest in Linux-based alternatives. However, Microsoft may limit its announcements to updates without a full OS version change.

Regarding gaming, no major surprises are anticipated. In May, Microsoft abandoned plans to integrate Copilot into Xbox gaming consoles, making it unlikely the topic will be addressed at the conference. The primary focus will remain on AI, development, and enterprise solutions.
