Microsoft Merges Copilot and Copilot 365 into a Single Unified App

Microsoft has announced the merger of its two AI assistant versions—Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot—into a single unified app. The update will begin rolling out in mid-September, allowing users to log in with any account type: personal, work, or school. This decision aims to resolve confusion caused by switching between two separate apps performing similar functions.

The new app will provide access to mail, calendar, and cloud services for both personal and professional use. Microsoft 365 subscribers will retain advanced capabilities, including higher usage limits and seamless integration with office applications. Other users can continue leveraging standard Copilot features, such as asking questions, generating images, uploading files, and communicating via voice or text.

As part of the reorganization, Microsoft will discontinue three features: group chats, podcast creation, and Deep Research mode. Access to existing data will be restricted after August 18, so users are advised to save critical information in advance. Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers will retain access to in-depth reporting via the Researcher tool.

The transition to the new app will include migrating chat history and content. Desktop and web users will receive automatic updates, while mobile users must install the new app version. Microsoft ensures that personal and work data will remain isolated to prevent mixing.
