Nintendo Switch 2 to Feature Removable Battery for EU Market

Nintendo has confirmed it is adapting the new Switch 2 console to meet EU requirements. Starting February 2027, Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 will take effect, requiring manufacturers to make batteries in portable devices replaceable without specialized tools. The company is already preparing the necessary modifications for the European market.

Currently, replacing the battery in the Switch 2 is a complex procedure that involves disassembling the device. After the changes, EU users will be able to replace batteries independently, extending the console’s lifespan. It remains unclear whether the updates will apply to Joy-Con 2 controllers or other accessories with the model code "BEE".

Updated devices will feature an additional "OSM" code on their packaging. Nintendo has not specified whether it plans to release versions with replaceable batteries outside the EU. The company also did not disclose technical details of the changes but emphasized that this will simplify console repairs and maintenance.
