Notion Shuts Down Notion Mail to Focus on AI Agents

Notion has announced the shutdown of its email service, Notion Mail, which will be deactivated on September 22. The decision is driven by a strategic shift toward developing AI agents capable of automating email workflows. According to company representatives, over half of Notion Mail users already delegate email management to AI agents without opening their inboxes.

Notion Mail was launched in 2024 following the acquisition of Skiff, a startup specializing in secure productivity solutions. The service integrated with Gmail and offered features like automated sorting, filtering, and email scheduling using artificial intelligence. In April 2025, the product became widely available to compete with services like Superhuman and Fyxer.

After Notion Mail is discontinued, all emails in linked Gmail accounts will remain intact. However, users are advised to export drafts and scheduled emails, as they will no longer be accessible after the shutdown. The company emphasized that AI agents for email management will continue to function, and users can migrate auto-labeling settings and agent instructions to other services.

The market for AI-powered email services is rapidly evolving. For instance, the startup AgentMail is also developing an email client focused on automation through AI agents. Notion is betting on this trend to offer more flexible and intelligent tools for managing workflows.
