New Robotaxi Rankings: China Leads, Waymo Lags Behind

Consulting firm Autnmy AI has developed a generative AI-based platform to evaluate and rank companies in the autonomous vehicle sector. The system analyzes open-source data, including government reports, SEC documents, and public databases, assessing operational scale, commercial partnerships, production, and safety.

In the latest rankings, China’s Baidu Apollo Go leads the robotaxi segment, outperforming Waymo and other U.S. competitors. Baidu is followed by Pony.ai and WeRide, with Tesla ranking fifth. The ranking updates every 12 hours and covers four key categories: robotaxis, autonomous trucks, licensed autopilot systems, and unmanned couriers.

Texas has seen a surge in registered autonomous vehicles. As of late May, Waymo expanded its fleet to 620 vehicles (up 7.5%), Tesla to 69 (up 64%), and Zoox to 43. Companies like Avride, Nuro, and MOIA maintain stable figures.

Other updates include Mobileye planning to launch its own robotaxi service in the U.S. by 2027, while Uber prepares a premium autonomous vehicle service in Houston by mid-2027. Waymo recalled nearly 4,000 robotaxis due to issues with roadwork recognition on highways.
