Nvidia and Microsoft Unveil 'New Era of PCs' at Computex 2026

Nvidia and Microsoft are preparing to unveil an innovative platform for personal computers at Computex 2026. In coordinated social media posts, the companies used identical phrasing and geolocation data, suggesting the launch of the N1X project—a mobile version of the GB10 superchip previously announced for the DGX Spark mini-PCs.

The N1X platform is likely to be the first Windows laptop powered by Arm processors developed by MediaTek. Unlike existing solutions, it will feature a unified memory architecture with 128GB of LPDDR5X and an RTX 5070-level graphics accelerator. This will unlock new possibilities for local AI applications that were previously inaccessible on Copilot+ PC devices due to performance limitations.

However, the platform has its limitations. With shared memory, the GPU will only receive 273GB/s of bandwidth—significantly less than traditional laptops with discrete graphics. This may initially limit N1X's target audience: the devices are unlikely to become mainstream gaming solutions but could be a breakthrough for developers and corporate users needing powerful AI computing.

The first N1X-based laptops are expected to be expensive. Similar systems using the GB10 chip currently retail for around $5,000, and memory and SSD shortages will only exacerbate the situation. However, the emergence of more affordable configurations with reduced RAM and scaled-down CPU/GPU specs could lower the entry barrier for users.

The Computex 2026 presentation will reveal further details about the project. If the rumors hold true, Nvidia and Microsoft's collaboration could mark a significant step forward in Windows on Arm and local AI technologies.
