Nvidia to Unveil New ARM Chips N1 and N1X at Computex 2024

Nvidia is set to re-enter the ARM-based PC processor market with the announcement of its N1 and N1X SoC lineup at Computex 2024. Leaks published ahead of the event reveal the key technical specifications of the new chips, which are designed to compete with solutions from Apple, AMD, and Intel.

The base model N1 will be available in two variants: a 12-core version (8 performance + 4 efficiency cores) with 2560 CUDA cores and a 10-core version (7+3) with 2048 CUDA cores. Both chips support up to 64GB of LPDDR5X memory via 8 channels and feature 8 lanes of PCIe 5.0 and 3 lanes of PCIe 4.0. Power consumption ranges from 18 to 45 watts.

The flagship N1X model is positioned as a more powerful solution. The top-tier version, with 20 cores (10+10) and 6144 CUDA cores, delivers graphics performance comparable to the desktop RTX 5070. The lower-end N1X variant features 18 cores (9+9) and 5120 CUDA cores. Both configurations support up to 128GB of LPDDR5X memory via 16 channels, along with 12 lanes of PCIe 5.0 and 5 lanes of PCIe 4.0. Power consumption for these chips ranges from 45 to 80 watts.

The new SoCs could power compact PCs, gaming laptops, and even an updated version of the Shield TV media player. Analysts suggest that the N1X may compete with the MacBook Pro in the premium segment, while the N1 could target the affordable market with devices priced under $1500.
