Qwen Opens Platform for Third-Party AI Agents: KFC, Luckin Coffee & Others Join

Qwen, an AI platform developed with support from Alibaba, has expanded its functionality by integrating third-party AI agents and services. Companies can now create their own branded agents within the app, unlocking new opportunities for automated customer interactions.

Early partners include major industry players: fast-food chains KFC and Luckin Coffee, beverage brand Mixue, and airline China Eastern Airlines. Users can already order food or plan trips using natural language, such as asking Qwen to suggest a suitable KFC menu nearby within a specific budget.

In the future, AI agents will handle more complex tasks: analyzing user preferences, reminding about bonus offers, managing trips, and even providing personalized recommendations. For example, an airline agent could suggest routes based on travel history, while coffee shops could notify customers when their order is ready based on location.

Over the past six months, Qwen has integrated services from Alibaba’s ecosystem, including maps, taxi booking, online shopping, and delivery. Now, the platform aims to attract more businesses by offering tools for AI-driven solutions. In the long term, this could bring the concept of a universal chat interface for accessing various services closer to reality, though the real-world effectiveness of such agents remains to be tested.
