Ryzen 5 5500 Briefly Tops Amazon CPU Bestsellers, Surpassing 9800X3D

AMD’s budget Ryzen 5 5500, based on Zen 3 architecture, briefly topped Amazon’s CPU bestsellers list, surpassing the flagship Ryzen 7 9800X3D. While the 9800X3D soon reclaimed the lead, this highlights the sustained demand for DDR4 platforms—four years after Zen 4’s launch and the transition to DDR5.

In Amazon’s top 25 bestsellers, AMD processors dominate: only three positions are held by Intel, while the rest belong to AMD. The split between DDR4 and DDR5 is nearly even—nine Zen 3 (DDR4) and twelve Zen 4/5 (DDR5) processors. This confirms that older platforms remain in demand, particularly amid high prices for new memory.

The Ryzen 5 5500, priced at just $80, features six cores and twelve threads with a boost clock of up to 4.2 GHz. It includes the Wraith Stealth cooler, further reducing build costs. However, it has a reduced 16MB L3 cache and only PCIe 3.0 support, limiting its performance in modern games compared to competitors like the Intel Core i3-14100F.

Experts note that motherboard manufacturers are ramping up DDR4 AM4 solutions to meet demand for budget builds. This explains why older processors like the Ryzen 5 5500 continue to attract users looking to save money.
