September 2026 to set record for smartphone announcements

September 2026 is poised to become one of the most packed months in smartphone industry history. Early in the month, sales of Poco F9 Pro and F9 Ultra launched, while this week’s IFA in Berlin—the largest European tech event—will unveil new devices from leading manufacturers.

Tecno will showcase a concept smartphone with an edge-to-edge display, while TCL will present its Nxtpaper lineup featuring E Ink-based screens. Xiaomi, making its IFA debut, may announce the Xiaomi 18 Fold foldable smartphone it previously teased. Apple, skipping the event, has scheduled a keynote for September 9, likely featuring updated iPhone 18 Pro models and its first foldable iPhone.

Analysts predict at least 20 new smartphones will launch this month. Huawei will unveil the tri-fold Mate XT 2 and the Mate 90 series in China on September 7. Xiaomi will introduce both the 18 Fold and its Pro variant, while Vivo and Honor have confirmed flagship releases with the X500 and Magic 9 series, respectively. Oppo’s Find X10 lineup is also expected, though some sources suggest a potential delay to October. OnePlus 16 rumors point to a September launch, but limited to Asian markets.

Industry experts attribute this surge to Qualcomm’s revised schedule. Previously, flagship Snapdragon processors debuted in December, but the 2026 launch has shifted to September 22–24. This allows manufacturers to accelerate device releases with the latest chips, capitalizing on the holiday season in China and other regions. However, analysts warn that some announcements may involve minor updates with price hikes, raising concerns about market transparency.
