SpaceX Unveils Next-Gen Starlink V5 Antennas — Smaller, Lighter, and More Energy-Efficient

SpaceX has begun selling its next-generation Starlink V5 user antennas, positioning the device as a more advanced and efficient alternative to the previous V4 model. The V5 maintains compatibility with existing second- and third-generation routers, as well as the Starlink Router Mini.

The key improvements include reduced size and energy consumption. The V5 antenna is nearly half the weight of its predecessor (1.1 kg vs. 2.9 kg for V4) and significantly more compact, with dimensions of 384 × 306 × 34 mm. Average power consumption has dropped to 35–50W, making it far more economical to operate. However, peak download speeds have slightly decreased to 375 Mbps, compared to over 400 Mbps for the V4.

For now, the new antenna is available only in select regions, but SpaceX plans to ramp up production to meet global demand. The company also clarified that the Starlink V5 is not designed for mobile use—SpaceX is preparing an updated Starlink Mini version for such applications, announced last month.

It’s worth noting that actual speeds depend on the subscription plan, time of day, and network congestion. While SpaceX may optimize performance in the future, users may initially encounter certain limitations.
