Spotify Tests New Social Features: Username and Bio Customization for Users

Spotify is preparing to roll out long-awaited updates that will allow users to change their usernames in the app. Currently, most accounts feature random character combinations, making identification difficult within the service’s social features. The new option is expected to boost activity in chats and music recommendations sharing.

According to an APK analysis of the latest app version (9.1.54.1258), users will be able to change their usernames no more than twice within 14 days. This restriction is introduced to prevent abuse but should not pose a significant obstacle for regular users.

Another notable addition is the expansion of the bio feature. Previously available only to artists, it will now be accessible to all listeners. Users will be able to add a brief profile description and customize its visibility—either for everyone or only for friends they interact with in Spotify chats.

These changes appear to be a logical step in developing the platform’s social dimension. While the features may seem basic, their absence has long been a noticeable gap. It remains unclear when the updates will be released publicly, but development is already underway.
